Manuel CHARPY is a historian, research fellow at the CNRS (IRHiS – University of Lille), founder and editorial secretary with Patrice Verdière of the journal Modes pratiques. Review of the history of clothing and fashion.

He has just returned from a 15-day research stay in the Republic of Congo as part of his work on the clothing practices of the Sappers. Here he looks back on his stay.
